Casino gambling carries a risk of loss. It is not an income strategy or a necessary part of a business or tourism trip.
If someone borrows money, chases losses, moves limits or experiences gambling-related conflict, the next step should not be another venue plan. Distance, a voluntary gambling ban or professional support matters more.
Admission: minimum age and ID
The Swiss Federal Gaming Board states that casino admission is limited to adults aged 18 or over. A valid identity document must be shown before entry; its official guidance names an identity card, passport or driving licence. The casino also checks whether a gambling ban applies.

Personal limits
- Set fixed money and time limits before leaving.
- Treat the full stake as money that may be lost.
- Never depend on possible winnings for transport, accommodation or obligations.
- Stop if a limit moves or a loss starts to feel recoverable through more play.

Voluntary gambling ban
According to the FGB, a person may request a voluntary gambling ban at any time, either in person at a Swiss casino or in writing to a casino with a copy of valid ID. The ban applies throughout Switzerland and, since 7 January 2025, Liechtenstein. It covers land-based and online casino games and authorised large-scale online games.
