Voluntary gambling ban in Switzerland
This page summarises the official FGB process. It cannot receive an application and is not personal advice.
How to request one
- Contact a Swiss casino of your choice.
- Request the ban in person or in writing.
- For a written request, the FGB says to include a copy of a valid identity document.
The FGB itself does not accept individual ban or lifting applications.
Scope
The register entry applies throughout Switzerland and, since 7 January 2025, Liechtenstein. It covers land-based and online casino games and authorised large-scale online games. The FGB guidance does not provide for a partial ban covering only online or only land-based casino play.
Lifting a ban
A gambling ban is generally not time-limited. An application to lift it goes to the casino that imposed the ban or registered the voluntary ban. The FGB states that a voluntary ban can be lifted no earlier than three months after registration; the reason for the ban must also no longer exist. This is not a promise that an application will succeed.
Primary source and support
No personal legal advice
For disputes about a ban or its lifting, the FGB refers to civil legal recourse and says it is not an arbitration authority. This guide does not assess individual cases or provide legal, tax or financial advice. Checked: 4 October 2026.
